Do we need a new staircase or can we renovate the existing one?

Hambledon Staircases tip – call us and we’ll talk you through the options for your staircase. We offer a free design visit too so we can come and see your staircase and talk about exactly what options you have available.

So what will we look at for you on the site visit?

Is the staircase still structurally sound? If it is a sound staircase then a staircase renovation will be more cost effective than replacing the whole staircase. Also reducing the waste created and therefore more eco.

What style of staircase would you like to achieve? All of our work is totally bespoke, you can pick and choose which bits you’d like, painted timber, oak, walnut, glass – the options are endless. We can make your existing staircase appear completely new, replacing all the visible elements to create a fresh and aesthetically pleasing feature of your home.

Time and disruption. It’s worth noting that removal of an old staircase and replacement is often a large a messy job. Staircase renovations can be completed in as little as 2 days with the absolute minimal disruption. Also, Nick is very well trained and will clean up as he goes.

When does it make sense to replace rather than renovate? If the staircase is beyond repair and has serious structural issues then we would recommend replacing, we can check this for you. If you want to change the layout of your staircase. Clients often want to alter a staircase which is too steep, this is often possible if there is sufficient headroom. To comply with modern regulations, this could be a reason to replace, but we can alter handrails etc to comply with modern regs.

Ultimately the choice is yours, but our free design visit can help you decide what the best choice is for you.

A Carpenter’s Wife Blog

Nick and I share a passion for creativity and design. We have renovated several houses together and as I was regularly drafted in to help with his carpentry work. It was a natural step to go into business together. For many years this was an informal arrangement with me learning on my feet, including CAD, web design, tax and admin. I was itching to get involved practically so it wasn’t long before I joined Nick on-site.

We’re very lucky to enjoy our time working together. My blog is a reflection on what we are doing, what we have learnt and where we are going. It’s nice to keep a written record of our journey together and life in Dorset with three young children.
