Oak Staircase with Black Metal Spindles

Oak and Iron spindles is our newest staircase renovation style. We love combining a solid oak handrail and newel posts with any of a wide range of metal spindles for a more contemporary look. It suits modern extensions, converted barns, and any home wanting the warmth of oak without a fully traditional feel – the metal spindles can give more architectural detail than timber.

Most metal spindles that we fit have a square profile and a matt black powder coated finish. We can also offer iron type spindles with a round profile. Some have a knuckle or frame design, there really are hundreds to choose from. Popular recent choices have included; the Richard Burbidge ‘elements’ range, square profile with a central knuckle, square profile with a frame and plain black metal spindles. We fit the spindles directly in to the timber handrail.

Available in two ranges:

**Signature Oak & Metal** – a handrail hand-crafted from a single piece of oak in our Dorset workshop, paired with your choice of metal spindles and 10mm wrapped oak newel posts.

**Classic Oak & Metal** – uses a factory-made engineered oak handrail, paired with metal spindles in and 3mm wrapped oak newel posts. A more cost-conscious route to the same oak-and-metal look.

Oak & Iron spindle features

Our classic oak and metal spindle staircase renovations include the replacement of the balustrade, and removing and replacing newel posts, hand rails, and base rails.

Often customers will decide to take their renovation to the next level, adding curtail steps, wall hung handrails, cladding strings and cladding the treads and risers.
